CLIFTON HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MINUTES May 24, 2010

The meeting was opened at 7PM by President Mike Foster.
We said the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
The April minutes were distributed and read. A motion was made, seconded
and passed to accept the minutes as presented.
Tiny Schaper gave the treasurers report. We have a current savings balance of $2.49
and a checking balance of $2,298.07. A motion was made, seconded and passed to
accept the report as presented.
Rep. Michelle Kratky from the 65th district gave an overview of the House activity.
An autism bill passed to give some medical insurance coverage to those with a diagnosis
of autism until age 18. The Mark McGuire highway will be renamed the Mark Twain
highway. Due to budgetary cuts a portion of the Fulton mental facility will be shut down
and some of the patients will be sent to the facility on Arsenal street. She will stay
abreast of this situation.
Officer Don Veille states our immediate area has not had an increase in crime but
surrounding areas have had frequent incidents of car smashings and robberies.
He encourages everyone to keep your personal possessions out of sight in your cars.
Dianne NSO suggests that everyone check on their neighbors daily when the
temperatures begin to rise. There were questions raised about derelict vehicles in the
neighborhood. She states if she is notified she will see if she can get them ticketed and
towed but they have to be visibly derelict.
Alderman Waterhouse from the 24th Ward states there continues to be mainly budget
discussion at the Board of Alderman meetings.
He introduced 2 speakers from the Planning and Urban Design Agency of the City of St.
Louis: Jan Cameron the Preservation Administrator ph. 622 3400 ext 201 and
Bob Bettis the Historic Preservation Planner ph. 622 3400 ext 277. They were explaining
how a neighborhood could become a historic district. This would only happen by
neighborhood request and the standard for homes would be written by the neighborhood.
It was agreed we would need more neighborhood input in discussing this matter.
New Business George Jones our CHNA webmaster has a list of E-mails for instant
messaging that he will begin using. He also states that at our next meeting there will be
people present to protest against Sophies Bar asking for CHNA support.
George also stated that he is going to make a community garden at Watson and Arsenal
and he has 200 plants from Operation Brightside.
The next Coffee in the Park is June 26th by the Eitman entrance from 8AM to 10 AM.
The next CHNA meeting will be June 28th .

A motion was made and seconded to close the meeting and the meeting ended at
8:05PM.
