ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an informational public meeting Thursday, March 10 to show the public preliminary plans to replace the Jamieson Avenue Bridge over Interstate 44.

The public meeting will be held March 10 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Southwest Baptist Church, located at 6401 Scanlan Avenue.

Maps and other detailed project information will be available at the meeting’s open-house format. MoDOT welcomes the public to come to the meeting to discuss the project one-on-one with its engineers and representatives.

In addition, people who are not available to attend can view the same information on a virtual public meeting webpage at the following link:

*The virtual public hearing will be live after 3 p.m. March 10 and available until March 23.

The Jamieson Avenue Bridge over Interstate 44 was built in 1971 and carries over 15,000 vehicles per day. The bridge has deteriorated beyond the point of performing maintenance repairs to it. Therefore, this bridge needs to be removed and replaced.

MoDOT will make the following improvements during this construction:

·        Remove and replace the existing bridge
·        Add decorative fencing to the bridge
·        Add decorative lighting to the bridge (sponsored by the City of St. Louis)
·        Replace sidewalks along the bridge

Jamieson Avenue over Interstate 44 will be fully closed to pedestrians and vehicles from late June 2011 when the project begins until mid-October 2011 when the bridge reopens to traffic. There will be various lane closures on Interstate 44 on weekdays and weekends during off-peak travel times. The removal of the bridge will require lane closures on I-44. The interstate ramps to/from Jamieson Avenue will remain open for the duration of the project.

The estimated cost for this project is $7 million. The entire bridge replacement project will be completed by early April 2012.
