Call for artists

Call for Art on behalf high school students at Central Visual Performing Arts High School in St. Louis. The students are organizing a gallery show as a response to African American History Month and a continued study of the way artists can take a stance on societal issues through their creativity and art. Black Lives Matter is a chance for participants to workout their sentiments on heavy racial topics that have come to the forefront of conversation in St. Louis regarding the Mike Brown case by commemorating lives of African Americans they have been touched by. The work displayed will not be created to address Michael Brown’s case but rather a constructed response to the importance of African American lives.Participants will create portraits of significant African Americans (personally significant, culturally significant, historically significant) and the portraits will be exhibited in the Kwame Gallery at Central VPA High School for a month long show. Our hope is to plaster the gallery walls in images of Black Lives that Matter. There is a standard format for the artistic response (a 6” oval- please see the attached PDF) that should be mailed to:Central VPA High School c/o Hannah Montford- Visual Arts Teacher 3125 S. Kingshighway St. Louis, Mo 63119 We would like your response by Feb 18th. We will return the work after the show comes down the first week of April.
