Michelle Kratky information from the Department of Revenue regarding tax forms and changes

Dear Constituents: I have received information from the Department of Revenue regarding tax forms and changes they are making to make sure that everyone that needs tax forms can obtain them. The alternative sources, which are described more fully below, are good options for obtaining forms, but the Department understands that some individual taxpayers may be unable to utilize these options. Therefore, to ensure that citizens are afforded every opportunity to obtain forms, the Department has taken action to designate a hotline for citizens to call if they have no other way to obtain the paper forms they need. The telephone number is 1-800-877-6881. One of the first things to note is that every taxpayer who filed last year using a Department paper form should have already received a paper form in the mail. You should double-check and make sure you did not already receive a form in the mail before pursuing other options. If you did not receive a form in the mail, you can visit the Department’s website at http://www.dor.mo.gov/tax and either print the forms or complete and file the forms electronically. Filing electronically, whether on your own, through a tax preparer, or by using a software program such as Turbo Tax, is more cost effective and should result in faster processing of the return. If you do not have access to a computer, you may go to a public library, most of which have access to the Internet. In addition, many libraries across the state have received packets from the Department that can be used to make copies of the standard MO-1040 tax form and the Senior/Disabled Property Tax Credit form. Local libraries have varying policies on how much they charge for a computer printout or copy. Libraries that did not receive a packet of forms can call 573-751-4800. I hope this information is helpful, but should you need additional assistance please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, MICHELE KRATKY State Representative District #65
