City of St. Louis, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and UMSL to form Public Safety Partnership

WHAT: St. Louis Board of Police Commissioners to consider for approval the creation of a public safety partnership with UMSL and the Office of the Mayor to make St. Louis neighborhoods safer. The partnership seeks to implement recommendations and principles contained in the 2011 IBM Smarter Cities Challenge St. Louis Report. The partnership will focus on crime reduction and a better coordinated criminal justice system. UMSL criminologists will be embedded in St. Louis Police Headquarters to help implement and evaluate crime reduction initiatives.

WHERE: Board Room, Police Headquarters, 6th Floor, 1200 Clark Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63103

WHEN: 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 21

WHO: Mayor Francis G. Slay

Board of Police Commissioners and Chief Dan Isom

Chancellor Thomas George, UMSL

Prof. Richard Rosenfeld, UMSL

James A. Lingerfelt, IBM Smarter Cities Challenge

WHY: St. Louis spends $250 million per year on public safety through its budgetary support of police, prosecutors, courts, corrections, probation and parole. The St. Louis Public Safety Partnership would be formed to help make the best use of that investment, building on past successes, to reduce crime and make St. Louis neighborhoods safer.
