Charges upgraded after Ballwin teen shot in forehead by friend dies

ST. LOUIS • A few hours after a Ballwin teenager died Thursday from a point-blank gunshot wound to his head, prosecutors upgraded charges to murder against the man accused of pulling the trigger.
St. Louis police say Kevin Beindorff, 21, of the 6000 block of Eitman Avenue near Clifton Heights Park, shot his friend, Matthew Pellegrini, 18, in the forehead after showing him a revolver. The two and another friend were sitting in a vehicle at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday outside the home where Beindorff lives with his parents.
Police said Pellegrini asked Beindorff to shoot him, so Beindorff raised the gun to his friend's forehead and fired once. Beindorff then drove Pellegrini to St. Louis University Hospital.
Doctors took Pellegrini off life support about 11:05 a.m. Thursday, police and relatives said.
After Pellegrini's death, prosecutors upgraded assault charges against Beindorff to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was jailed Thursday in lieu of $300,000 cash bail.
Beindorff's mother, father and brother declined to comment Thursday.
