Public Safety Director’s Spotlight on Neighborhood Activities

Public Safety Director’s Spotlight on Neighborhood Activities

This week I want to focus on St. LouisMardi Gras fun.  For the next two weekends Mardi Gras revelers will pour into the Soulard and Downtown neighborhoods to celebrate the season.  I welcome our visitors and hope they have a good time and enjoy the activities.  But I also encourage them to respect the fact that Soulard and Downtown are City residential neighborhoods and to act responsibly towards the residents and their property.

Mardi Gras, Inc., which puts on the annual St. Louis Mardi Gras events, does a great job making sure that things go smoothly, that visitors have fun, and that security measures are in place.  Underage and excessive drinking are perennial problems at the Soulard celebration.  To address those issues, Mardi Gras volunteers receive TIPS (Training through Intervention Procedures) safety training so that citations for drunken driving and other minor infractions are kept to a minimum.  For the Grand Parade on March 5, you might want to consider using Metro.  There will be additional MetroLink service that day and Metro will operate a shuttle from 14th and Spruce near the Civic Center Transit Center to 10th & Marion Streets.  For more details on Metro service, visit http://tinyurl.com/6fvy2wd .

Below are details about some of the fun events planned in the City this weekend.  These activities offer an opportunity to spend leisure time with family and friends, to explore neighborhoods new to you, and to make new acquaintances.  So I encourage you to stop by and take advantage of them.  See you in the neighborhood!
