Bulky Pick-up and B.O.A.T (Batteries-Oil-Appliances-Tires) Items Disposal


Overview

Bulk Items Pickup

What will be picked up:
  1. Up to three items
  2. Large items, such as household furniture, appliances, etc.
  3. Bundled branches and logs

Batteries-Oil-Appliances-Tires Items (B.O.A.T.) pickup

You can recycle your BOAT items with the City during the monthly bulk pick-up!
It is against the law to throw the following "BOAT" items out with the trash:
  1. Batteries from motor vehicles (not household batteries)
  2. Oil from motor vehicles
  3. Appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, ovens, etc.
  4. Tires from motor vehicles and trailers
Waste oil can also be recycled at many service stations (be sure to check with them first) and some auto retailers or service centers will accept car batteries for recycling.


Preparation

Place the BOAT items out for collection, along with your other bulky trash, when the monthly bulk pick up is is your area.

Determine Pick-up Schedule: 

To find out when bulk pick up is scheduled in your area.
  1. Type address in the Address and Property Look-up
  2. Check "Neighborhood Services"
  3. Review and/or Download map

Instructions

To make sure your bulky items will be picked up:
  1. Place your items (not more than three) out by 6:00 am on the Monday of your collection week.
    • Residents that have curbside collection should place their bulk items at the curb.

    • Residents that have alley collection should place their bulk in the alley behind their home (be sure to keep bulk items away from refuse containers).
  2. Collectors are not permitted to pick up items on private property.
  3. Refrigerator doors must be removed.. Other large items need not be dismantled.
  4. Place smaller loose items in a container or bundle. No container or bundle may weigh over 100 lbs., or be over 6ft. long, or be over 2ft in diameter.
  5. Do not place bulky or BOAT items in your regular trash container, or place regular refuse with the bulky items.
  6. Do not block the alley with bulky items.
Depending on the area in which you live, Bulky and BOAT Items will be picked up during the week of the indicted Monday of each month.

Fees

Bulky items are picked up once a month - service is included in residential trash collection fees.

What to Expect

The Refuse Division has the entire week to pick up the items placed out for Bulky Pick up - If items are not picked up by the end of the week report to Citizen Service Bureau at 314 622-400 and report items missed.
